In addition, we have come to believe that if we distance ourselves from our own and others’ humanity, we will be better able to help others. We have therefore acquired ways of speaking about others with labels, so that we are left feeling no connection to them as human beings. Speaking about people by using labels turns human beings into objects that can be analysed, judged and scrutinised. Examples of such labels are ‘feminist’, ‘rebellious teenager’, ‘gay nurse’, ‘homeless man’, ‘negative team’, ‘unethical organisation’, ‘poor community’ and ‘violent nation’.  Chene Swart –  Re- authoring the world
